Character Study: Observations from a Very Curious Artist

by Carly Kuhn

About the Book

This is a book for anyone who has ever people-watched from a café window, lingered too long at a museum,

or noticed something small and perfect on an ordinary street. Character Study is a collection of illustrated

observations - on fashion, on city life, on the details that most people walk right past. Drawn with a keen eye

and a light hand, it is equal parts sketchbook, love letter, and field guide to the curious world.

Inside the Book

A behind-the-scenes look at Fashion Week. An afternoon at the farmers market. A stroll down a city street.

A seat at the museum. Character Study moves through the worlds Carly Kuhn has spent years quietly observing —

capturing the characters, the moments, and the small absurdities that make up a life well-noticed.

A Note from Carly

This book started almost six years ago in Los Angeles, before Michigan, before kids, before

I had any idea what shape it would take. It began as a dream I described over coffee to my agent — something illustrated,

something for the curious adult, something that didn't quite exist yet. It took six years, two cross-country moves, and a lot of

scribbling to figure out what it wanted to be. I hope it earns a place on your desk, your shelf, or your coffee table -

and that it makes you want to look a little more closely at the world around you.
