This book started almost six years ago in Los Angeles, before Michigan, before kids, before
I had any idea what shape it would take. It began as a dream I described over coffee to my agent — something illustrated,
something for the curious adult, something that didn't quite exist yet. It took six years, two cross-country moves, and a lot of
scribbling to figure out what it wanted to be. I hope it earns a place on your desk, your shelf, or your coffee table -
